Legion Halls

October 13, 2017 to January 2, 2018

Free, nonticketed event

This exhibition consists of 25 images by Toronto photographer Tobi Asmoucha. Her photos have documented community life across the country and capture a glimpse of the role Legion Halls play in Canadian communities today.

Functioning as community centre and social hall, Legions exist as a connection to the past, and an important part of the Canadian fabric. Legion Halls are changing along with Canada’s demographics; communities that have been bound together from military beginnings are going through a metamorphosis for their own preservation.

The images capture everyday moments and events in Legion branches across Canada. Printed in black and white, they aim to capture the sense of timelessness, and the connections between past and present, experienced by Asmoucha in her Legion visits.
