The Standing Committee on Private Bills and Private Members’ Public Bills is an all-party Committee consisting of 11 Members. The Committee reviews all petitions for Private Bills, hears from the petitioner and any other persons interested in the bill, and reports to the Assembly on that review. For more information please refer to the Petitioner’s Guide to Private Bills.
All public Bills other than Government Bills (i.e., Private Members’ Public Bills) are also referred to the Committee. The Committee must report back to the Assembly within eight sitting days of the bill having been referred.
In accordance with clause (k) of Part A of Government Motion 10, passed by the Assembly on March 17, 2020, the application of the eight sitting day time period for the Committee to report to the Assembly under Standing Order 74.11(2) is suspended with respect to each Private Member’s Public Bill that is shown on the Order Paper as referred to the Committee. This provision expires at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, 2020.
